Greymatter technology

Greymatter; the new benchmark. High-End and sustainable.

Greymatter – a comprehensive concept

Greymatter represents Van Berlo’s most advanced solution for logistics floors: a concept in which sustainability, technological innovation and exceptional quality come together. It goes beyond concrete technology alone — Greymatter embodies a comprehensive way of thinking about logistics floors, with functionality, CO₂ reduction, quality and long-term performance at its core.

Sustainable and future proof.

Greymatter is therefore more than a floor. It is an advanced technology, a sustainability strategy and a commitment to quality combined. For clients, this means a floor that is not only technically superior, but also demonstrably sustainable and future‑ready.

Advanced concrete mix with reduces cement content.

At the heart of Greymatter lies an advanced concrete mix design with reduced cement content, lower water consumption and high‑performance admixtures. The result is a floor that is both more sustainable and superior in quality, developed for intensive logistics operations and engineered to perform for decades. Continuous optimisation by our R&D department — from shrinkage testing to material innovations — ensures a floor solution of the highest possible standard.

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).

A core element of the Greymatter philosophy is the validated Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). This provides full insight into environmental impact, covering materials, equipment, logistics, curing processes and CO₂ savings. This level of transparency enables clients to make informed, forward‑looking decisions and to demonstrably substantiate their sustainability ambitions.

Greymatter also creates space for digital innovation. Technologies such as QR and NFC enable the origin, composition and CO₂ impact of each floor to remain traceable throughout its entire lifecycle. Knowledge sharing via the Van Berlo Knowledge Center and continuous design optimisation are integral parts of the concept.

“The Greymatter concept results in concrete with less cement and less water. Leading to more sustainable concrete and a high-end floor.”
Marie-Louise Peters, R&D Concrete Technology Expert

Continuously work to reduce the ecological footprint.

However, Greymatter extends far beyond concrete itself. We actively explore alternative fuels such as HVO100, electrification, packaging optimisation and the integration of circular materials where projects allow. In this way, we continuously work to reduce the ecological footprint of every project.

No joints.

Joint‑free floors are a key component within Greymatter. These floor systems are applied for both their technical superiority and their clear commercial benefits. With no joints required, they provide an exceptionally stable, functional and low‑maintenance foundation for every logistics process. This significantly reduces wear on forklifts and other equipment, prevents damage to goods and minimises repair and downtime costs. The result is a substantial reduction in Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for any logistics or industrial environment.

Set a new benchmark.

With Greymatter, Van Berlo sets a new benchmark: the industrial floor as a sustainable, intelligent and durable foundation for modern business operations.
